Who
we are
My name is Ken Cusse. I am the managing partner for
Champion Thoroughbred. I have been a racing fan/junkie for
most of my life. I have been a part of 18 different
partnerships including 2 year olds in training, and claiming
partnerships. There are pros and cons to both types of
partnerships and a variety of opportunities for fun and profit.
Although I cannot guarantee a profit, I can guarantee fun.
My
dream is to have my picture taken with the winner of the
Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May. Although it
is an ambitious dream, I am doing something to try and make that
dream come true.
What we do
As the managing partner, we help the trainers
select a horse that we hope will
make money. Money
can be earned
in a variety of ways. The most obvious
way is through purses won in the
various races.
Purses range from a
few hundred dollars up to and including
$1 million for the top stakes
races. A
second way to earn money is to
sell your horse for more than you paid
for it by entering
it into a claiming race
for an amount greater than what you
paid. Or you can sell the horse via
a private sale. The third way to make
money is through breeding. The biggest
money is earned here,
but it is also
the least likely scenario. Breeding fees
or mares in foal can be profitable, but
a hard
business to break into as only
the best bred or the winningest horses
generate significant interest.
